Stefano Ferilli, born 12.10.1972.

Position: Associate Professor at University of Bari since 2006 (first appointment 2002). Currently Director of the Inter-departmental Center for research on Logic and its Applications.

Education: 2 degrees in Computer Science with full marks and honors. PhD in Computer Science. Engineer licence (required in Italy).

Courses: Programming, Programming Languages, Algorithms and Data Structures, Artificial Intelligence, Methods for Digital Document Processing.

Memberships: Italian Order of Engineers, Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA) – a member association of European Coordinating Committee for Artificial Intelligence (ECCAI), Italian Association for Automated Computing (AICA), Italian Group of Researchers on Pattern Recognition (GIRPR) – a member association of International Association for Pattern Recognition (IAPR), Italian Group of Users of Logic Programming (GULP); former member of the International Society for Productivity Enhancement (ISPE) and of the ISPE Foundation.

Research interests: Theoretical research interests centered on Artificial Intelligence topics, and specifically on Logic and Algebraic Foundations of Machine Learning, Inductive Logic Programming, Theory Revision, Multi-Strategy Learning, Knowledge Representation and Expert Systems. Practical aspects of research include the development of relational supervised and unsupervised learning systems, and applications to the fields of Digital Document Processing and Digital Libraries, and more recently Bioinformatics.

Organization: Member of the Organizing Committee for: the 15th European Conference on Machine Learning (ECML) and 8th European Conference on Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases (PKDD), 2004; the 18th International Conference on Industrial and Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence and Expert Systems (IEA/AIE), 2005; and of the 16th International Conference on Methodologies for Intelligent Systems (ISMIS), 2006. Program Committee member for: International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications (DEXA) 2009 and 2010; International Conference on Advances in Databases (DB) 2009; International Conference on Agents and Artificial Intelligence (ICAART) 2009; Brazilian Symposium on Artificial Intelligence (SBIA) 2008; ECML Data Mining for Business workshop in 2005 and 2006. Referee for many international conferences including IJCAI, ICML, ECML, ICDM, ISMIS and ECDL.
